40 restaurants get 'Uncorked!' for milestone food & wine fest on South ShoreThis article first appeared on SILive.com
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The borough's biggest outdoor eat and greet comes full circle: More than 40 restaurants and chefs gather Saturday, June 2, for the Historic Richmond Town Uncorked! Wine, Food & Fun Festival's 10th Anniversary Founder's Celebration.
"We're excited to announce that this year's Uncorked! features more restaurants and demonstrations than ever before: Keep your eyes peeled for a variety of new participants as well as perennial favorites," says Gale Cirigliano, event chair and a member of HRT's board of directors.
"We welcome you to taste the decadent dishes from premier local restaurants as you sip and stroll leisurely throughout our 10 acres of historic parkland."
In addition to expanded assortment of cuisines, look for two hospitality tents staffed by the board of directors, two outdoor tents for cooking demonstrations by prominent chefs, the return of Cheese School, a beer terrace and homemade ice cream at the new Egger's Parlor in the Park.
About that founder: Pamela Silvestri, food editor for Staten Island Advance/SILive and a "curator of all things delicious on Staten Island," will be awarded HRT's "Founder's Award" at the festival that was her dream and ultimate creation when it was established 10 years ago, says Ken Bach, interim director of the living history village.
"The Uncorked! Founder's Award is a way for Historic Richmond Town to laud Pam's 20 years of service and commitment, from her volunteer work with the Historical Society to her dedication and love for Decker Farm," says Bach, who fondly recalls popular farm program once led by her husband and executive chef David Cavagnaro.
Chef cooking demos: Guests will see some of the borough's top chefs transform beloved recipes into a mouthwatering meal during tented TV-style demos throughout the day:
Max Calicchio, chef and owner of Max's Es-Ca.
Julian Gaxholli, owner of Bayou, Beso, and Blue.
Franco Ortega, chef and owner of Casa Franco and Italianissimo.
Rob DeLuca, owner of DeLuca's.
"We are extremely excited to take part in this year's Uncorked! anniversary and to share all of my mother's recipes to all those that attend --especially her meatballs!," says DeLuca.
Return of Cheese School: Executive Chef David Cavagnaro returns to the Third County Courthouse with his signature presentation and crowd favorite, Cheese School. This "triumphant return to Uncorked!" pairs select wine with gourmet cheese and artisanal chocolates to delight the palette, Bach said.
Chef Dave Cavagnaro pours a glass of wine at his "Cheese School" during Uncorked! 2009. He's back for 2018's 10th anniversary edition.
Award-winning competition: Participating restaurants are putting on a show for the senses, competing for top honors in "Best Dish," "Best Dessert" and "Best Table Display" categories.
Judges include: Liam Dertinger, Food Network's Chopped Junior champ; and Marianne and Steve Piazza. Note: People's Choice Awards are determined on a text-to-win basis, so bring your phone and your appetite to vote for faves.
