We call our first painting in the Master Studies series Monet's Late Afternoon. This is a reproduction of Claude Monet's famous painting which he called: "Argenteuil, Late Afternoon". The name references the French town of Argenteuil which sits in the background of the painting.
"Argenteuil, Late Afternoon" retains elements of Monet's early works. Although some of this painting shows signs of the short brush strokes that he employed on his more famous Impressionistic works, parts of the painting still have a more reserved quality.
The original is a medium-size oil painting on canvas, measuring 31.9 inches by 23.6 inches. This is slightly larger than the 16 inch by 20" canvas we will use in its reproduction.
In this class, we will explore some of these short brush strokes as well as learn a few fun facts about the legendary Claude Monet, the person and his art.
