Disconnect to Reconnect
Each day is fulled with constant stimulation from social media outlets, phones, televisions, e-mails, and more. While the convenience of being able to connect with coworkers, clients, and work without actually having to be at work offers some freedom, it's easy to let the access to technology consume your life, time, and even relationships.
If you added up all of the time in your day spend connected to a screen, how many hours would you (honestly) say you spend looking at a screen just to make sure your not "missing" anything?
Turns out, we're missing a lot. We're missing out on time with our dear friends and family closest to us; missing out on time spent working on our health and well being; missing out on time to be mindful and reflective, and true quality time. The words of a dear friend ring with such truth, "time is precious, spend it wisely."
DISCONNECT TO RECONNECT
Let's try something. Let's pick a day this month and try to put all of your digital devices away for a whole day and keep track of see how often the urge to “check in” comes up. Then, replace that urge with talking to and listening to your partner, or a friend. You might be surprised at what a difference this can make in your own personal serenity and, in your relationship.
As always, a wonderful place to reconnect with someone is at Pinot’s Palette. A relaxed atmosphere, good jams, a lot of art, your preferred beverage, and a great opportunity to talk and make new memories with those you love.
We don't collect your mobile devices at the door (don't worry), but do suggest putting them away during your class. The best way to reconnect is when you disconnect from the stuff that doesn’t truly matter.
