Meet the Artist - Meet Abby! Our local artists are the heart and soul of Pinot's Palette. Here in Cordova, we have an amazing team of ladies who are dedicated to making sure that you have an great experience every time you visit. Here's a little more about one of those ladies--meet Abby!
I am originally from Glenview, Illinois (~20 minutes north of Chicago). I wanted to be a (visual) artist ever since I realized that I didn't have a future with a musical instrument (elementary school). My parents encouraged me to either stick with drawing/painting or violin lessons - the visual arts always came more naturally for me. After my mom signed me up for art classes, drawing and painting quickly became a passion of mine.
I went to the University of Wisconsin-Madison (GO BADGERS!!!) where I studied Human Development & Family Studies, Communication Arts-Rhetoric, and 2D-Design with an emphasis on Studio Art & Painting. During my Junior year, I studied abroad in Florence, Italy at Santa Reparata International School of Art, where I focused on completing my art classes. Sometimes I have a hard time choosing an absolute favorite medium to work in because I enjoy working with a variety of mediums! While I was working toward my Minor in Studio Art, I loved mixing and layering watercolor with oil paints; however, when I was studying art in Italy, I became obsessed in working with India ink.
My inspiration from my personal artwork is rooted in travel and adventure - treating my canvas as a window into the beauty and culture that I have been lucky enough to experience. My most recent works consist of landscapes and architectural elements layered on top of one another - strategically meshed together to create one large, abstract landscape. They are vibrant, thick, and complex - all telling a story.
My favorite Pinot's Palette painting from the selection that I've had the chance to paint thus far is entitled, "Blue Suede Views." It's of a fun Memphis skyline accompanied by a beautiful sunset! My favorite thing to do in Memphis is to try new restaurants in the Downtown and Midtown areas. I love spending weekend evenings on Overton Square, where I frequent my absolute favorite place to eat: Babalu. If you have not been there yet, you must go there tonight!! FYI: they don't take reservations, unfortunately, but that just means it's AMAZING!
The last book that I read was The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. The last movie I watched was The Imitation Game. And the last TV show that I watched was Graceland, which might be the BEST show I've ever seen!!! I think I'm in love with Johnny's character.
If I were to describe myself in no more than three words, I'd say that I am bubbly, compassionate, and adventurous.
