Meet the Team! Vickie
For this week’s feature artist, we have Vickie! She was born in Winston Salem North Carolina, but has lived in Alabama for 26 years. She has two daughters, five grand kids and one great grandson, that was just born this month! She has been creating from an early age and was chosen in Elementary school to paint a picture that was used for the whole school! Working in many mediums she gives her art as gifts to family and friends, like hand painted hat boxes to completely handmade dolls! She shows no slowing down; she loves to paint murals and make jewelry, and even at one-point hand painted her VW Beetle! What is amazing is that she is largely a self-taught artist, her only formal training were private lessons when she was 12!
She is also a writer; not only does she do her own blog she writes articles for The Foothill Times in North Carolina. Her goal is to one day write a novel! She is a jack of all trades, or Jill of all trades!
Her inspirations are the classic impressionist, Monet, Van Gough, and Rembrandt to current artist like Madison Latimer! My favorite Ms. Vickie quote is one you’ll hear her use in class “if you mess up don’t worry because paint covers a multitude of sins!”
Her tips for aspiring artists are simple—it’s okay to color outside of the lines…think outside the box and let your hands create what your mind sees!
