Creative Corks: Clever and Easy Wine Cork Crafts You’ll Adore!
If you are like me and hate to throw away corks but after filling jar after jar and drawer after drawer with them I am at a loss as to what to do with them. I’m really not a crafter type of person but I was intrigued to find so many creative uses for corks. From coasters and trivets to jewelry and more. The main draw for me on doing cork crafting is that they are fairly simple and I can finish a project in just a few hours.
Here are a few tips in working with corks.
• First if you are cutting them in half be sure to soak them in warm water before cutting
• Be sure to sand down rough edges if you are wanting a flat surface
• Sort them in similar lengths and shapes
Monogram Letters and Shapes
The easiest and most popular use for corks is a monogrammed letter. Wooden letters or chipboard letters as well as other shapes are readily available at local craft store. The letter or shape serves as a guide for your project and all you need is a tacky glue or glue gun to adhere your corks. Feel free to get creative with the end of the corks creating an ombre’ effect from white wine corks to dark red corks on the ends.
Bulletin Boards, Trivets or Coasters
Another easy simple use for corks is to repurpose old picture frames. Depending on the size of the frame you can create a creative bulletin board for your kitchen or a jewelry organizer for a closet. A unique trivet for your dining table or cute coaster for your TV room.
To get started all the tools you need to create these items is the frames, glue gun and corks. If you want to cut them in half lengthwise be sure to soak the corks before cutting for a cleaner and easier cut. Make sure they are dried out before trying to glue them on any surface.
Next, think about a pattern you would like to create within the frame such as, brickwork, chevron, circular or herringbone patterns are all conducive to these projects. Then start gluing down the corks in the pattern you chose.
There is no limit as to uses of corks and these are just a sampling of what you can do with corks. Get creative and when you run out of corks………drink more wine!!
