New studies suggest that art has a major effect on the way our bodies chemically manage stress. Cortisol, a hormone associated with stress was measured in participants 18-59 years of age while creating artwork. 75 percent of participants cortisol levels were lowered during the 45-minute art session. Even more interesting, seasoned artists had similar results to newcomers to art experiences., So, whatever your skill level, creating may be just the ticket to feeling more optimistic this year.
