Staff Spotlight: Mattie Gilliland
Mattie. Matthew. Matteo. Art Czar - whatever you address this gentleman by, you're going to find him smiling and greeting you, chalice in hand, ready to rock. Mattie Gilliland has been with us for just shy of 4 years now, and remains one of the most memorable, influential players on our team. Is it his charming wit that keeps guests coming back, or that vast knowledge of all things art he's willing to share with the world? Whatever it is, this guy sure knows how to retain some fans and steal some hearts.
Before Mattie joined our Tulsa Pinot's Palette team, he was traveling the world - not only for fun and employment in Japan, but also defending our country while serving two tours in Iraq as a combat infantryman. He remains devoted to Veterans and art simultaneously when he spends his time teaching Veterans at the local VFW how to combat the blues with art. He traded his rifle for a sword when joining the world of melee, and when he doesn't have a sword or paint brush in hand, one can find him fan-boying out over Mystery Science Theater 3000 or heading to Heavener, Oklahoma for some medieval ruckus.
All horseplay aside, it's no wonder at all why this man is the most requested instructor in Tulsa. He lives by a code of ethics sure to deliver 100% every single class, steadfast in his efforts to leave no guest displeased with their experience or their masterpiece. Mattie holds the title of Artist Mentor here, where any of our staff know they can come to him for guidance. So whether it's our guests or our staff, he is the man to learn from. While he continues earning his Master of Fine Arts degree that will soon having him instructing at a collegiate level, we hope to have him around for another thousand classes showing painters all over Tulsa, Jenks, and Broken Arrow how to have fun while they create something beautiful. We love you, Mattie!
