"Be a Force of Awesome"
Painting it Forward can come in many different formats. We recently had the privilege of painting with the fantastic kids at Camp Uplift at the Dragonfly Foundation. I think they inspired us as much as we inspired them!If you are not familiar with the Dragonfly Foundation it is a non profit that helps children with cancer and blood diseases. The word help is an understatement. They do everything from assist families through their initial diagnosis, provide any items that the child may need, and have built a “safe place” for the families to go and relax. Their “retreat” as I like to call it has everything a kid could want. A gaming area with multiple tvs, an art station, toys, games and much more.
We were lucky to be part of Camp Uplift this year. The camp provided 5th and 6th graders a week of activities and an important message. “Be a Force of Awesome” Here is a quote from Maureen, Camp Uplift coordinator.
We hope to encourage kids to think about kindness and compas¬sion as more than being random. We hope that their actions will be purposeful: to help their neighbor, their friend, even someone they don’t know, and to foster a better home, school and community. There is so much negativity in the world around us that we hope that Dragonfly’s Camp Uplift will show these kids that they can bring positivity to those around them and empower them to start the ripple of kindness and awareness. We believe that there is “no act too small and no one too small to act.”
It was a pleasure painting with these kids that will no doubt make the world a better place with the lessons and empowerment they received at Camp Uplift.
