Have you ever felt fragmented or out of control because of the frantic pace of life? Do you ever feel anxious or just downright stressed? Maybe it is stressful just thinking about planning a vacation to get away and unwind. It can be easier just to stay in town and unwind by engaging in something creative. Sometimes the best thing is to re- connect with friends in order to unwind.
Oftentimes, it is just about relationship--that friend or family member that you can laugh with, who is not surprised about anything you may have to say and who accepts you just the way you are. Laughing (especially those big belly ones), sharing with another and/or a physical touch or hug can do wonders by releasing the feel good endorphin of dopamine. Even smiling gives your body a boost! In the same way a creative endeavor such as painting, drawing, playing a musical instrument, writing, dancing and singing also decreases cortisol, increases the activity of the immune system, helps with memory, decreases inflammation and even protects your heart by releasing protective chemicals. The science is in and in fact has long been established. Do you know that art therapy can help one to be more focused, intuitive and creative in his thinking even after finishing that "masterpiece" creation?
