What does Vintage Mean?Ever wonder why the word "Vintage" is used to describe wine?
In wine, the term "Vintage" is used to describe what year the grapes of a wine were grown. The word itself translates from latin, meaning "wine" and "remove".
Here's why it's important:
Depending on the location, season and weather, grapes can be plump and juicy, or not.
Warm weather produces riper grapes and better wine. But a poor growing season can make grapes low in sugar and and result in a lower quality wine. As a result, a good growing season usually produces a better wine. And that is what makes a vintage wine more expensive.
