Cinco de Mayo 2018April showers bring May…margaritas. You’ve heard that old saying, right? For many of us, #CincodeMayo means enjoying Mexican food and probably a (couple) margaritas. While chances are good you’ve probably already found your favorite local watering hole, there are a lot of muy delicious spots to check out in the East Bay this Cinco De Drink-o.
If you’ve got tacos, margs, and a sweet deal on the brain, here are a few of my favorites. A word of warning though: the following might induce mouthwatering and advance stages of hunger.
La Penca Azul (Alameda)
Join the Cinco de Mayo Outside Margarita & Taco Garden at La Penca Azul’s Bay Farm location. Sip different flavored margaritas and beers on tap while you savor street style tacos from La Penca’s very own taco cart. Can’t make happy hour? That’s okay – this party goes from 4-11 pm. Just remember to hit an ATM as all sales will be cash only!
Cinco De Mayo Pub Crawl (San Francisco)
Mayes Oyster House will host what’s billed as the biggest Cinco de Mayo Pub Crawl! Featuring $3 beers, cocktails and shots, the event begins with a check in at the Oyster House at 2 p.m. and follows with trips to several popular neighborhood bars including the Blur Bar and Lounge, McTeague’s Saloon, Playland Bar, Vertigo Bar and the Wreck Room. Advance tickets which range from $12 to $20 are available through Eventbrite so get ‘em while you can…and while you’re still sober enough to purchase.
Tamarindo Antojeria (Oakland)
If you like cocktails and margaritas, you will be in heaven. Be sure to order the house specialty tamarindo margarita with a side of shrimp tacos! It might not be the cheapest option (unless you stop in on Taco Tuesday), but it’s definitely worth every penny and calorie.
Cinco De Baya Boat Party (San Francisco)
This daytime Cinco de Mayo boat party is complete with live music from seven different artists on two separate floors and bars available on multiple decks. The boat starts boarding at noon and tickets are just $35 – $45 so buy yours here: https://www....s-44821003829
North Beach SF Cinco De Kentucky Derby Party (San Francisco)
The 7th Annual North Beach SF Kentucky Derby Party is getting a twist this year – “Cinco de Derby”. Celebrate at Boardroom SF with mint juleps, margaritas, beer and more as the 144th Run for the Roses plays on the big screens. There will be prizes for best hat, best dressed and more, so be sure to dress in Derby style!
Just north of the Downtown Berkeley BART Station, you’ll find a neighborhood gathering place complete with a modern menu inspired by Oaxaca and neighboring coastal regions. Along the same theme, the craft cocktail list is made up of all-Mexican classics. The signature margarita is made simply with Cimarron Blanco, orange-scented agave and lime.
Pinot’s Palette-Alameda: Saturday May 5th from 7:00-10:00 the popular Sugar Skull Beauty will be painted! Guests favorite local artist: Arturo Archiega will be celebrating Cinco de Mayo. Grab your squad and join us for wine, music and fun! Reserve your canvas here: https://www..../event/232228
If you’re not hungry and/or thirsty at this point, you may just be a robot. In which case, I will happily volunteer to eat your tacos.
