Love Me Do, Hear, & See January 28th – February 3rd, 2019It’s hard to believe that January has come and gone already, but it’s true nonetheless. One month down, eleven to go! I don’t know about you, but I found January to be especially stressful, therefore, I plan on kicking February off with a drink (or two) and a show (or two). Here’s what’s happening around town this week:
Monday January 28th
The first time I visited Swell Bar was for a friend’s 21st Birthday bar-crawl bash. Needless to say, the bar has a special place in my heart – what’s not to love about daily drink specials, darts, and Monday night trivia? This FREE event kicks off at 8, and while you’re always encouraged to gather up the troops for trivia night, you are also more than welcome to play solo…perhaps, while you enjoy a rum drink or two (they’re half off tonight!)

Tuesday January 29th
I feel like more people would be inclined to exercise if there was alcohol involved. Well, now you can! Meet at Temescal Brewing in Oakland for a quick 5k run before returning to the brewery for drinks in the beer garden. Be sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp as this is a night run and you certainly wouldn’t want to take a spill…especially before having the chance to spill your beer.

Julie’s Coffee & Tea Garden has got to be one of the most underrated hang-outs in Alameda. Come for the food and drinks, but stay for the many events they host throughout the week, including tonight’s book signing. Join author Jessica Jane Robinson as she signs copies of her graphic novel, “The Resilience Birthright”, a set of stories inspired by the 10+ years of experience Robinson collected as a Climate Leader under Former VP Al Gore.

Sunday February 3rd
This one’s perfect for the entire family! Captivating audiences from 3 months to 103 years old, “2+1” at Rhythmix Cultural Works is a “wonderfully accessible dance theatre piece about the rollercoaster-ride of early parenthood.” In this 30-minute dance performance, performers Colin Epstein and Tara Pilbrow navigate the fatigue, confusion, and moments of complete hysteria hand in hand. The show is short and there are two chances to catch it at both 4 and 6 pm. According to their event page, “bubble play” to follow (weather permitting)!
