Not Watching the Super Bowl6 Things to do Instead of Watching the Super Bowl
Maybe, you’re not a football fan. Maybe, you’re sick of watching Honda commercials. Maybe, you’d rather not open your home to hordes of Tom Brady-a-holics. The big game might be right around the corner, but for many people (especially those of us who pull for Bay Area teams), it’s just another Sunday afternoon of overcrowded grocery stores and underwhelming appetizers. But, it doesn’t need to be…
Whether you’re looking for a solo adventure or something to do with the squad, why not get off the couch this Super Bowl Sunday and take in the sights (or sounds) around the Bay Area? Here’s a few ideas to get you started:
Take in a show.
Head down to Altarena Playhouse for a matinee performance of Christopher Durang’s outrageous comedy, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
Visit: https//www.altarena.org to purchase tickets.
Shop local artists/vendors.
Find an assortment of clothing, jewelry, and tasty treats at The Buck, held every first and third Sunday of the month, alongside the Jack London Square’s Farmers Market. Even better, it’s a free event!
Visit: https//www.f...londonsquare/ for more info.
Make and eat some delicious food.
Sur La Table might be an awesome place to register for wedding gifts, but more than that, they offer cooking classes at most of their locations – everything from Chocolate 101 to A Night in Tuscany.
Visit: https://www....urlatable.com for a list of locations and class schedule.
An afternoon antiquing.
It’s the first Sunday of the month and you know what that means…the Alameda Point Antiques Faire is back. Buy your ticket at the door (the earlier, the better) and browse for hours.
Visit: https//www.e...stalameda.com for more details.
Paint a masterpiece.
Visit us at Pinot’s Palette and take home a keepsake. Beer, wine, friends, and paint – what more could you ask for? See the full calendar and sign up for an event online here:
Take a hike.
Grab some friends, pack a picnic, and enjoy the outdoors. Keep it short on Huckleberry Path in Oakland or for the more adventurous, tackle the eight-mile Briones Crest Trail Loop.
Check out https://www....-the-east-bay to find a trail near you.
However, you decide to celebrate your Sunday Funday, just remember this, above all else: avoid the chips aisle at Safeway.
